被譽(yù)為計(jì)算機(jī)界諾貝爾的「圖靈獎」今年的結(jié)果終于揭曉!美國數(shù)學(xué)家Jack J. Dongarra因其對高性能計(jì)算發(fā)展的貢獻(xiàn)而獲獎。

　　Dongarra 教授自1989年起成為美國田納西大學(xué)電氣工程和計(jì)算機(jī)科學(xué)系特聘教授，美國橡樹嶺國家實(shí)驗(yàn)室計(jì)算機(jī)科學(xué)和數(shù)學(xué)部的杰出研究人員。

　　從2007年開始，Dongarra 教授成為英國曼徹斯特大學(xué)數(shù)學(xué)學(xué)院的圖靈研究員，與曼徹斯特的同事合作進(jìn)行批量計(jì)算、混合精度計(jì)算以及 PLASMA 軟件的工作。

杰克·唐加拉

　　數(shù)學(xué)家杰克·唐加拉(Jack Dongarra)被評為2021年圖靈獎的獲得者，以表彰他對數(shù)值算法和庫(numerical algorithms and libraries)的開創(chuàng)性貢獻(xiàn)，這些算法和庫使高性能計(jì)算軟件能夠跟上四十多年來的指數(shù)級硬件改進(jìn)。

　　曼大數(shù)學(xué)系主任安德魯·黑茲爾(Andrew Hazel)教授說：“杰克·唐加拉的開創(chuàng)性工作使世界各地的研究人員能夠使用高性能計(jì)算。數(shù)學(xué)系很高興他的重要貢獻(xiàn)得到了認(rèn)可并獲得圖靈獎。”

　　唐加拉教授目前是曼徹斯特大學(xué)的圖靈研究員(Turing Fellow)，與曼徹斯特同事的合作包括批量計(jì)算、混合精度算術(shù)算法和 PLASMA 軟件方面的工作。曼徹斯特大學(xué)擁有 33 名圖靈研究員，遍布所有三個大學(xué)學(xué)院，涵蓋各種學(xué)科。

　　何為圖靈獎?

　　圖靈獎(ACM A.M. Turing Award)，是計(jì)算機(jī)協(xié)會(Association for Computing Machinery，簡稱ACM)于1966年設(shè)立的用以獎勵對計(jì)算機(jī)事業(yè)作出重要貢獻(xiàn)的個人的獎項(xiàng)，有“計(jì)算機(jī)界諾貝爾獎”之稱。這個獎設(shè)立目的之一是紀(jì)念現(xiàn)代計(jì)算機(jī)科學(xué)的奠基者、英國科學(xué)家、曼徹斯特大學(xué)教授艾倫·圖靈(A.M. Turing)。

　　艾倫圖靈研究所

　　總部位于倫敦大英圖書館的艾倫圖靈研究所(The Alan Turing Institute)于 2015 年作為國家數(shù)據(jù)科學(xué)研究所成立。2017 年，根據(jù)政府的建議，他們將人工智能添納入研究范圍。 曼徹斯特于 2018 年加入該研究所。圖靈研究員是研究所內(nèi)科研人員的職稱之一。
