劍橋大學(xué) University of Cambridge終身正教授&前副校長(zhǎng)
Nigel教授是劍橋大學(xué)終身正教授,曾任劍橋大學(xué)副校長(zhǎng)、自1999-2020年擔(dān)任化學(xué)工程系主任,并于2009年至2013年擔(dān)任菲茨威廉學(xué)院院長(zhǎng)。他是英國(guó)皇家工程院院士(Royal Academy of Engineering)、化學(xué)工程師學(xué)會(huì)成員(the institute of Chemical Engineers),并曾獲英國(guó)化學(xué)工程師協(xié)會(huì)Donald勛章。Nigel教授科研生涯一直專(zhuān)注于生物制藥的制造和配方,主要是細(xì)胞和基因療法,并在科學(xué)期刊上發(fā)表了200多篇文章。
Nigel教授在科研轉(zhuǎn)化領(lǐng)域有著卓越的成果:1985年他就任于聯(lián)合利華荷蘭研究實(shí)驗(yàn)室并領(lǐng)導(dǎo)生物工程部門(mén),1990年加入英國(guó)惠康生物科技(Wellcome Biotec)擔(dān)任干擾素生產(chǎn)工藝研發(fā)負(fù)責(zé)人;他還是Cobra BioManufacturing plc和Angel Technology Ltd的聯(lián)合創(chuàng)始人,該公司于2006年被授予女王創(chuàng)新獎(jiǎng)(Queen's Award for Innovation)。

Nigel is an Emeritus Professor of Chemical Engineering in the University of Cambridge, a Life Fellow and former President of Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge and a Fellow of the UK Royal Academy of Engineering. Nigel’s career has focused on the manufacture and formulation of biopharmaceuticals, principally cell and gene therapies, on which he has published over 200 articles in scientific journals. He has managed biologicals development and bioprocessing operations for Unilever Research in the Netherlands and Wellcome Research in the UK and, amongst others, was an Director and co-founder of Cobra Bio-Manufacturing plc from its IPO in 2002 until its acquisition in 2010 and a principal of Angel Technology Ltd, a nutraceutical company that won the Queen’s Award for Innovation 2006. Nigel advises international biopharmaceutical companies on development and biomanufacturing IP issues for biosimilars and was a founding member of the Scientific Advisory Board for RVAC Medicines Inc which develops mRNA vaccines.

本課程旨在帶領(lǐng)學(xué)生了解生物制藥這一領(lǐng)域,了解目前生物制藥的“藍(lán)?!薄獑慰寺】贵w、重組蛋白藥物。我們將著重探討利用細(xì)胞表達(dá)系統(tǒng)制造生物藥物的方法,這是當(dāng)下生物制藥行業(yè)發(fā)展的主流方向。其中還將提及支持生物制藥的細(xì)胞生物學(xué)和細(xì)胞融合技術(shù)等知識(shí)。如何利用細(xì)胞培養(yǎng)的方式生產(chǎn)藥物?在生物制藥工藝中我們需要關(guān)注哪些關(guān)鍵控制點(diǎn)?目前主流的生物藥物都有哪些并有什么樣的應(yīng)用?在本項(xiàng)目中都將給你答案。項(xiàng)目將以一種互動(dòng)和探索性的方式來(lái)探索的,鼓勵(lì)學(xué)生提出問(wèn)題,參與公開(kāi)討論,并在指導(dǎo)下探索媒體和科學(xué)文獻(xiàn)。在課程結(jié)束時(shí),學(xué)生將了解生物藥物是如何開(kāi)發(fā)的,探索為慢性疾病提供安全,有效和負(fù)擔(dān)得起的治療方案,學(xué)生可以選擇自己感興趣的方向進(jìn)行科學(xué)研究,提交項(xiàng)目報(bào)告,進(jìn)行成果展示。
Students will learn about the field of biopharmaceuticals in this course. We will concentrate on the biopharmaceutical industry's mainstay, the production of biological drugs using cellular expression systems. In order to support biopharmaceuticals, it will also cover cell biology and cell fusion technologies. How can cell culture be used to make medicines? What crucial control points in biopharmaceutical processes should we pay attention to? What types of biological drugs are currently in use today and for what purposes? You'll learn the solution from this project. Students are encouraged to ask questions, participate in open discussions, and explore the media and scientific literature with guidance as the project is explored in an interactive and exploratory way. By the end of the course, students will comprehend the development of biological drugs and explore safe, efficient, and affordable treatment options. Students can choose the direction they are interested in to conduct scientific research, submit project reports, and display results
